NUsport gyms offer world class fitness facilities across two stunning central locations at the University of Newcastle and Honeysuckle. Our University campus offers University of Newcastle students and the local community industry leading gym facilities, group fitness classes and a recently refurbished 50m indoor swimming pool.

While our Honeysuckle facility provides exceptional fitness facilities to students attending the city campus as well as the corporate centre of Newcastle with its convenient location.

We accept Fitness Passport members at both our Callaghan and Honeysuckle facilities.

OUR FACILITIES

FITNESS ZONES

NUsport's gyms are equipped to support a wide range of training styles. With a large range of cardio equipment, pin-loaded strength machines, free weights and functional training areas at each site. Our gyms are staffed during opening hours so there is always a friendly face available to give advice or provide a spot.

NUsport University and Harbourside are equipped with the latest in Life Fitness equipment, featuring treadmills (integrated with entertainment on flat screen displays), steppers, cross trainers, upright cycles, IC7 spin bikes and concept rowers.

Cycle Zone

A purpose built cycling studio with the latest in Life Fitness IC7 Bike technology. Listen to the music as your NUsport Instructor takes you on a journey of hill climbs, sprints and flat riding, while burning calories and improving your fitness.

Strength Training Zone

One of a kind with the latest in Life Fitness and Hammer Strength equipment that will revolutionise your resistance training program using pin-loaded machines, free weights and a dedicated sled track at NUsport's University campus.

A large area focused on stretching and functional training. Use the Vipr, TRX or Kettlebells to add some variety to your workout.

INDOOR COURTS

Indoor courtS

Our facilities are designed to support the competitive and training needs of athletes, while also serving the recreational and fitness interests of the community.

NUsport University offers two indoor courts:

  • Stadium Court: Suitable for netball, basketball, volleyball, badminton, and pickleball.
  • Auchmuty Court: Ideal for futsal, netball, basketball, volleyball, badminton, and pickleball.

Courts are available for:

  • Private bookings with friends.
  • Joining our social sport competitions.
  • Hosting events or gala days.

Stadium Court features seating for 250 spectators, ideal for larger gatherings.

Opening hours:

  • Monday 5:00 - 9:00pm
  • Wednesday 5:00 - 9:00pm

Equipment hire available:

  • Racquet $5.00
  • Ball $2.00

1 hour hire costs:

  • Community $25.00
  • UON Staff $20.00
  • UON Student $15.00

Bookings are 60 minutes in duration (no 30-minute sessions available).

Participants must be 16+ years of age.

Booked sessions can be cancelled outside of 2 hours with a refund however cancellations with in the 2 hours will not be refunded.

*Please note the Squash Courts will be closed during the school holidays.

POOL

NUsport, University houses a 50m indoor heated pool and is the place for all things aqua.

From swim training to aqua fitness and fun in the pool for the littlies, free entry for children 3 and under, there is a range of programs on offer to be able to enjoy and work out in the pool.

Please note: Patrons who have mobility restrictions MUST see the lifeguard when entering the aquatics area.

OVALS

NUsport manages four sporting ovals, three that are floodlit. All the ovals are located on the grounds of the University of Newcastle's Callaghan campus.

High quality surfaces with the adjoining world class facilities of NUsport, University giving athletes and teams a unique opportunity to additionally access high performance training facilities, the pool and testing facilities in a private environment.

HIGH PERFORMANCE TRAINING ZONE

NUsport is an official New South Wales Institute of Sport (NSWIS) central High Performance Centre. The purpose built training area allows sporting teams and athletes to train in a private environment, with access to ovals, an indoor heated pool and testing facilities.

Regularly used by the Newcastle Knights, Newcastle Jets, Hunter Wildfires and visiting sporting teams.

Book a FREE gym orientation with us today. Our highly qualified team will guide you through the gym and our equipment. Providing training advice and even assist with individualised programs.

BODY COMPOSITION SCANS

If you can measure it, you can manage it

A great feature offered to our members, it can take your training to the next level or provide you with a good starting point for your training goals.

Several factors can be measured with a body composition scan from body fat percentage to muscle quality. Body composition scans are available to members only at both NUsport Harbourside and University. See one of our friendly gym instructors for your body composition scan.

PERSONAL TRAINING

NUsport's affiliated personal trainers offer individualised training programs to help you reach your goals.

Our personal trainers will help you take your training to the next level and support you every step of the way.

NUsport has its very own accredited Exercise Physiologist (EP) who is registered with ESSA to deliver a range of programs for those with specific rehabilitation or chronic illness needs.

What is an Accredited Exercise Physiologist?

Accredited Exercise Physiologists specialise in the delivery of exercise and lifestyle modification programs for people with chronic conditions and healthy populations.

 

Why a GP may refer you to an Accredited Exercise Physiologist.

  • To improve your quality of care
  • To improve self management
  • To incorporate more preventive services.

Accredited Exercise Physiologists are differentiated from other allied health professionals by the possession of extensive knowledge, skills and experience in clinical exercise delivery and health-behaviour modification counselling for people with chronic diseases. As accredited Exercise Physiologists are registered with Medicare Australia, you are eligible to claim against private health and Medicare funding.

Rebates

Private Health Funds
Our EP's are registered with major health funds.  We request payment at time of consultation and a receipt will be issued for you to take to your individual health fund.

Medicare EPC Referrals
Our EP's are registered with Medicare to provide services as part of the Enhanced Primary Care (EPC) Program.  Please ask your GP if you qualify for an EPC referral.  If so, you can claim a rebate back through Medicare for up to five visits to us over a calendar year.  We request payment at time of consultation and a receipt will be issued.  You will be required to take the receipt to Medicare to claim your rebate.  This is not a bulk bill service.

Department of Veterans Affairs (DVA)
All gold card holders will be bulk billed if referred by your GP.

OUR PROGRAMS

GROUP FITNESS CLASSES

NUsport’s group fitness program offers a wide variety of classes for every fitness level and ability.  From high energy cardio inspired workouts, to conditioning strength focussed sessions, with HIIT offerings, mobility/rehabilitation style classes and much more, our exceptional group fitness program will leave you wanting more.

Incorporating both Les Mills and freestyle programs led by our team of inspirational, qualified and experienced instructors, the class delivery is second to none with over 100 classes per week to choose from.

NU TRAIN

NUsport's NU Train Centre is the first in Australia and will take your training to a different level.

With 10 classes per week, NUsport's Master Coaches will take you through a range of classes, helping you discover what your body is capable of.

SWIM & AQUATICS

At NUsport University, our eight lane, 50m indoor heated pool offers a state of the art facility for our community and members of all ages. To ensure NUsport's Aquatic Centre remains ahead of industry standards and to continue to offer dynamic and functional facilities for all users, we have recently undergone substantial renovations and are excited to invite our NUsport family back to enjoy the new NUsport pool.

KIDS PROGRAMS

NUsport has a range of activities and programs specially designed for children of all ages. Including learn to swim programs both in school terms and intensives run during school holidays, swim squad programs and holiday sport and entertainment programs. NUsport is a great place to help your children learn, grow and play in a safe and fun environment.

6 nights per week. 8 team sports. 10 competitions.

NUsport offers six nights per week of social sport competition for students, staff and our wider community. Register as a team or individual but be quick, as places fill up quickly!

CLUB SPORT

Sport and active recreation clubs enjoy a strong and proud history at the University of Newcastle. From the inception of the Bushwalking Club in 1955 to the rise of the Quidditch Club in 2015, clubs have always played a vital role in enhancing the student experience at university.
