Sports and active recreation cubs enjoy a strong and proud history at the University of Newcastle. From the inception of the Bushwalking Club in 1955 to the rise of the Quidball Club in 2015, clubs and social sport have always played a vital role in enhancing the student experience at university.
NUsport offers six nights per week of social sport competition for students, staff and our wider community as well as a wide range of NUSport Clubs which are affiliated with the university. Register your team or explore our sporting clubs.

Sports Awards presented by NUsport on behalf of the University, recognise outstanding sporting achievements through sporting scholarships, University Blues, University Colours, Sports Club of the Year, Team of the Year and Sports Person of the Year and are an important part of the University's history and commitment to providing high quality services and facilities.
As a member of the Elite Athlete Education Network (EAEN), The University of Newcastle is committed to supporting the endeavours of high level athletes to combine study and maintain their involvement in elite level sport. Through the provision of academic support and flexibility, sport scholarships and world class training facilities, the University of Newcastle and NUsport can assist in achieving a 'dual career' – that of sporting prestige and completion of tertiary study.
Instilling a proud tradition of competition and friendly rivalry, the ResChallenge Sports Program exists to encourage positive interaction between on-campus residents of the University of Newcastle. The program returns in 2021 with 10 sports, featuring a combination of weekly social competitions, gala days, and knockout events.

Sport and active recreation clubs enjoy a strong and proud history at the University of Newcastle. From the inception of the Bushwalking Club in 1955 to the rise of the Quidditch Club in 2015, clubs have always played a vital role in enhancing the student experience at university.
25 clubs to choose from, ranging from your traditional sports Rugby League, Rugby Union, Football, Cricket to Quidball, Ultimate Frisbee and Mountaineering.
In addition to NUsport Sport and Active Recreation Clubs, there are many other Clubs and Societies you can join through The University of Newcastle.

Our social sport competitions run in line with University semesters. You can nominate a team or nominate as an individual for each competition. Sports range from touch football, netball and basketball. Get more information here.
